Quorthon explains the name:
"We wanted people to just read out "The return..." - as in a second album or a
follow-up - and then flip the album over to look for a tracking list. Not
finding one, what they got was this apocalyptic poem with the song titles woven
into it. Only after listening through the album to the end would you get the
full title of the album: THE RETURN OF THE DARKNESS AND EVIL.''
Vinyl/cassette versions: the tracks "Sadist" and
"Bestial Lust" are swapped on the tracklist and lyrics sheet (vinyl). Also,
"Revelation of Doom" is unlisted on the vinyl except in the "tracklist poem"
which appears on the back cover. The vinyl and cassettes were distributed in the
United States by Relativity/Combat Records.
The 2003 reissue has 'Revelation of Doom' and 'Total Distruction' as one track,
aswell as 'The Rite of Darkness' and 'Reap of Evil' are one track.
